Sitizano
Church of Santa Domenica
In the town of Sitizano stands the church of Santa Domenica, rebuilt after the destructive earthquake of 1908, and then restored further between the 1930s and 1940s. The church, of the neo-Renaissance style, rests on a raised base and is accessible by three staircases leading to the doors on the front façade. Inside there are three naves, separated by arched pillars, with the central nave leading to a raised presbytery that ends with a semicircular apse. The church houses valuable artwork: a marble holy water font or stoup, a painting depicting St. Joseph, the coat of arms of the Taccone family, marquises of Sitizano, and the frescoes that embellish the walls of the presbytery. There are also numerous statues and some marble busts.
